Why did you decide to become an author?
I never planned to become an author but I have always enjoyed reading and writing. When I was at school I wanted to be a teacher so that’s what I did first. While I was working as a teacher I wrote Big Rain Coming. I wrote it about the things I saw every day around me. All of the people in the story are real. After the story was written I decided to send it away to some publishers. I was very lucky to have my first story published and have kept writing for children since then.
Is it fun being an author?
I think so. I think being an author is the best job in the world but that’s because I love writing. If I really loved driving trucks I’d probably prefer to be a truck driver. When I was little I wanted to be a vet.
